2014 BRIT Awards Red Carpet Best Dressed: In Colour Blocks
So once we saw all the many, many long sequin gowns that had long sleeves and high necks on last night's 2014 BRITS Awards red carpet, it was time for a bit of refreshment. It came in the form of solid colour. With open backs and no sleeves. The best of which was Pixie Lott in DKNY in the purest of white. Utterly gorgeous.
Cracked-out style-consistent, Rita Ora turned up in the brashest of yellows. This Prada dress was super sexy, with a bejewelled neckline and shoulder straps. I hated the fit around the side-boob — gaping is never that attractive — but the dress looked good on her and the hair and make-up were fantastic.
I know some people are going to love this dress. Those whose personal aesthetic aligns more with urban street style and the crazy-is-good-so-throw-it-on vibes. For me it is good but not great, with the whole look being greater than the sum of its parts. Or just better than the dress really. But for those who hate it, I call your attention to the fact that it could have been SO MUCH WORSE. This is a winner.
And then there was the greatest style shock of the evening. Iggy Azalea in Elie Saab. Sure it is red and fitted with some sheer cut outs. But it is elegant. And beautiful. And sophisticated. And considering that this is a performer who has practically shown her lady junk off in stage outfits, I am completely stunned. In a good way, of course. Well played Iggy!
