2014 Oscar Nominees Lunch: Best and Worst Dressed
The annual luncheon was held in Hollywood this week for the 2014 Oscar Nominees. It's a tricky event to dress for and every year it presents some really awkward results. I mean you have to look awards show-y but it's a lunch — I don't think there is a defined dress code for that. But Amy Adams nailed whatever it was that she needed to do. This Elie Saab trouser and silk blouse is incredible. It speaks to her 70s role that she is nominated for, but also looks completely modern. It is relaxed but smart. I love it.
I also thought that Meryl Streep did well. A very feminine and elegant Max Mara dress in a gorgeous fabric is definitely the way to go. The clutch adds interest to an otherwise straight-arrow outfit.
Sandra Bullock looked great in her Stella McCartney dress. It was sexy, but the grosgrain striped ribbon at the waist dressed it down. My only quibble here is that strapless is a weird choice for someone who is nearly 50 years old to wear to lunch. Know what I mean?
The incredible Lupita Nyong'o was dressed in Dior. Sigh. I completely hate this. I just don't think the dress or the shoes do anything for her. Thankfully this is just the Oscars lunch. Having won best dressed at three awards shows so far this season, we can let her off on the lunch. She had better bring it on the carpet though.
And then there was Prada. Both Kristen Bell and Cate Blanchett wore Prada. Neither is worth commenting on. Both these ladies need to go and sit somewhere quiet and thing about what they have done. They can bring it next time. Carry on.
