Trend Alert: Little White Dresses
This is not the first trend alert for the little white dress. In fact I think I may have been banging on about it for about 18 months now. But it REALLY is a trend for summer and if you were in any doubt, please take a look at the celebs who have successfully (and some less so) worn a LWD in the past week or so, starting with my favourite, Naomi Watts in her structured and layered look for the start of the Diana biopic promotional tour.
Gwyneth Paltrow also wore a structured white dress last week — note those shoulders — when she was in the Hamptons. She did it pretty much make-up free too. Just swapping between yellow heels and yellow sandals, and hair down and hair up as she moved between night and day. Clever lady.
Then there was Amber Heard who wore a J.Mendel white dress for her Paranoia premier. As we discussed last week, I am not sold on this actress yet, but she does do a fine line in LWDs.
Julianne Hough is on a bit of a style ascendency right how, with tons of great looks in her swag bag now. This one, with a white tuxedo dress by Moschino is a triumph, helped along by the presence of Ron Swanson of course. How I want to be her right now...
And then, less successfully, our favourite over-achieving writer/director/actress/hipster Lena Dunham proves that she still hasn't got a handle on this whole fashion thing by trying out the LWD trend in this ill-fitted dress with a nice sleeve. Sadly the only problem with the dress is that it didn't fit her, and she managed to split the seam by the end of the event. If only she would just get her fit right. This could have been a contender. Right?
