The 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards red carpet was dominated by a deluge of solid colour, taffeta ball gowns, the likes of which I haven't seen since my matric dance in 1987. It had a safe-but-dated vibe about the whole thing. And for me, the dress that stood out first and allowed me to believe there would be red carpet joy was this incredibly modern dress that Kate Mara wore, which is by J.Mendel. White is so this season. The sheers and cut outs are contemporary. The silhouette is modern. It was the dress that made me breathe out for the first time. Thank you Kate.
