On Friday afternoon, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, casually turned up for her second official public engagement since the birth of Prince George. And the world went giddy as she flashed her utterly impressive belly to the world in a string of active volleyball shots. I can't believe this wasn't completely intentional.

Despite my gnawing cynicism, she looked fantastic. It was completely low maintenance, the whole visit. It involved an oft-repeated outfit of J.Brand jeans, Smythe blazer, Ralph Lauren striped tee and those horrible Russell and Bromley wedges. And it included the Princess getting completely involved in all the games and activities.

I can't believe anyone can look impressive playing volleyball in wedges and a blazer, but Kate managed it with some aplomb. The hair really could have done with a ponytail, as ever, but seriously you can't fault this whole vibe. Great girl, in great shape wearing a classic casual look for a sports charity event. It's a slam dunk.
