Kim Kardashian Takes Paris, But Fails in Givenchy
I have missed Kim Kardashian and her wilful way with clothes. Let's be honest, she had something going for a while. And then Kanye stepped in and things went a bit awry as she was pushed way, way too far into the fashion zone. The couple's trip to Paris this week is reflective of this, as Kim steps back into the spotlight. Looking, may I say, pretty darn good in a simple pink PVC pencil skirt and t-shirt last night. And I am particularly fond of those Alaia shoes. Very pretty. Keeping things simple was working.
She wore the same shoes the day before when she paired them with a similarly hued shift dress — slit up the thigh of course — and a camel coat. Simple clean lines and the monotone assist in streamlining the whole thing for her. Very nice. Well, as nice as you would expect from KK.
I was most fond of this look. That camel coat again. A casual vibe. Almost unheard of from a Kardashian, whose idea of 'casual' is six inch heels and a skin tight leather trouser. I liked how relatively relaxed this was, the fedora, and the happiness. Not trying too hard. Easing up on the pressure a bit.
But this look was a disaster. It is Givenchy of course. It was custom made the day before by Ricardo Ticci himself, for Kim to wear to the show. It is ALL KINDS OF WRONG. At what point do Kim and Kanye need to admit, Ricardo is no friend to them. He first makes Kim look like a sofa and now this. Terrible. She has just got her well-defined waist back — why cover it with black frills?? The length is awful on her. Everything just playing up the body issues and down the good bits. Too high fashion. Too fussy. Too much. This is where she goes wrong. No filter. Keeping up with the simple is the way to go. Filter out the high fashion and embrace clean, strong silhouettes. That's the ticket. No?
