Cat Deeley in Ostrich Feathers for WGSN Global Fashion Awards
Last night my fashion book club mate, newly wed Cat Deeley, was the MC at the 2012 WGSN Global Fashion Awards. A couple of things need to be mentioned about this. First, that my other mate Victoria Beckham won the Women's Designer of the Year Award — hazzahs all round — and second, that I can't see this much ostrich feather finery without assuming that it meant money for SA. Let me explain. As far as I know, ostrich feathers are a big industry in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. And while there are feathers exported from other countries like Australia, we are still a pretty big player. So a big, beautiful feather skirt like this can only mean good things for this struggling industry. Yay Cat. The dress, BTW, is by Charlie Brear, who combined a vintage 1930s silk ivory dress with this feather overskirt. He is a friend of Cat's apparently.
Cat is also on her umpteenth cover of Red Magazine for December 2012. I adore Red mag. I know it's uncool to say that, but I do. It's the imported mag I read for non-work related reasons. She looks adorable on the cover of course. And inside actually gives away a bit about her relationship with her new husband Patrick Kielty. A reason to buy surely? I know I will.
