Jennifer Lawrence Red Carpet Style — London and Berlin
So here is the thing. In the same month that Natalie Portman is killing it in repeated Dior looks, Jennifer Lawrence is also wearing the French label almost exclusively for her The Hunger Games: Catching Fire premier red carpets. This is tricky because my theory is that J-Law doesn't actually suit Dior. In the same way that Blake Lively doesn't suit Chanel. It's inexplicable but true.
For the London premier of the new movie, Jennifer wore a glorious white silk satin gown with a panel of multi-coloured sequin. And from the back it was absolutely fantastic. And perfectly suited her new hair cut, which was swept back elegantly for the event.
Sadly from the front is was a bit saggy and nondescript. I'm not sure that this was a complete success. It wasn't terrible, to be sure, but it wasn't brilliant.
What was brilliant was her after party look. It was Louis Vuitton. It was sassy and sexy and amazing and cool. Her hair looks fantastically punky and awesome. It was a youthful, sensuous look for a big-deal party and it suited her perfectly.
That little detail of mesh on the hip was the clincher for me. It said that J-Law could do sexy but that she would do it on her own terms and in a played-down way that didn't scream and get everything out. This may be one of my favourite looks on her.
But Jen was back in Dior last night for the Berlin premier. It was a double breasted couture coat dress, with magnificent detail on the inset panels of the skirt. It was fine but just a bit dull for such an exciting and talented young star. Her stylist really needs to do better. Drop the Dior and embrace cool, young labels for her. She deserves it. Please. Right?
