So in the fashion industry you are always on the look out for the next big thing. The next 'face'. The next design talent. The next thing that gets everyone giddy. And you always want to be the first to 'discover' them. Get ahead of the rest. Be the trend setters. And when it comes to finding models that have the potential to be this on the global stage, there is no more dedicated and successful a photographer than my friend Ulrich Knoblauch.

He's the guy who first photographed Katryn Kruger — and persuaded people to start working with her. And now he comes to me with this young lady, Kayla K from FanJam model agency Edge.

Of course I had already noticed Kayla. Of course I have to say that. But I will admit it was on the ramp at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Africa. And I wasn't really paying THAT much attention to the models. Rather I was looking at the clothes.

But she caught my eye and I was surprised to hear her talking in the shuttle bus between the tents and the hotel — because she spoke with a South African accent and I assumed she was an international girl. But I held my tongue and said nothing. Just filed that piece of information away for future use.

And now is the future. As it ever is in fashion. And I wanted to share some of Ulrich's amazing photographs of Kayla with you. He really has been capturing something in her that is other-worldy and utterly beautiful.

And then mixing it up a bit and throwing edgy and dark in there for variation. And it seems that she can do both. And I will say this. I didn't expect the edge. I thought fey and pretty all the way. But here she is doing cooler and harder and now I want to work with her immediately.

I want to start shooting my own stories with Kayla so I can say I shot her before she was famous. Because there is every chance she may be sometime soon.
