Michelle Obama in Thom Browne for 2013 US Presidential Inauguration
Yesterday — 2013 US Presidential Inauguration Day — began with a visit to church apparently. For the occasion, Michelle Obama wore a Thom Brown dress and coat, paired with J.Crew grey court shoes. It was lovely and simple.
With a swoosh of a magician's quick change, she then emerged at the inauguration ceremony with the shoes swapped out for Manolo Blahnik boots, and the addition of a spangled J.Crew belt and fabulous purple gloves by the same store. And this is about as good at Mrs O has ever looked. Fashion forward, elegant, trendy and appropriate, this specific mix of high and low is a hall mark of how this woman has changed the landscape of how we wear fashion. It actually makes me weep with joy.
The girls looked wonderful too. Sasha was wearing a Kate Spade lilac coat and Malia was wearing a J.Crew purple coat. They accessorised themselves and looked delightful. My bet is that the rise of the lavender coat brigade is about to begin.
Inside, with the coats off, we got to see the Thom Browne dress under the coat. It is just as impressive. I love these lines on Michelle. Keeping warm, MO popped on her Reed Krakoff cardigan from the day before, and was good to go. What do you think about Michelle Obama's inauguration style? did she get it right? Which was your favourite look? Let me know.
