2012 Costume Institute Gala Dresses I Should Like But I Don't. Oh No, I Don't.
I know. Sacrilege. But I think that Beyonce is better than this Givenchy dress. Which is saying a lot since I love Givenchy. Worn to last night's Costume Institute Gala — where she made a grand, and very late entrance — this dress is the epitome of one that I know that I should like but absolutely do not. I mean no amount of feathers and beads will convince me that this is not a stage costume. Which she will soon rip off to reveal the leotard underneath. That we can see. Looking like shape wear.
Gwyneth Paltrow was also decked in a dress that everyone raved about but I found to be a bit blah. By Prada. With side boob action. Didn't mind that. Did mind the half attempted mullet. The too shortness. The awkwardness of the whole shebang. Carey Mulligan, also in Prada, actually looked very nice. Only it had the damn sleeveless poloneck vibes, didn't it? Grrr. Hate. And Jessica Biel's Prada was about as boring as she appears to be. And it had a sack of a hem. And bangs in her eyes. Makes me want to bang my head. Poof.
Sarah Jessica Parker's Valentino is a bit much, right? Matching shoes?? Creases? I mean, I actually quite like the dress, but a up-hair do would have helped as well as some contrasting shoes and a proper fitting. Just don't understand it. Rooney Mara in Givenchy was a bit predictable. But I am putting a blanket moratorium on leotards. I don't want to see them outside a dance recital. Ok? It gives ordinary people ideas. And that's not good. But she does look very pretty. And Kate Bosworth looks cool in her Prada feathers and dark lipstick (two trends, bam, bam). But is cool the right look for the Met Gala? I don't think so. So, sorry guys. These may be nice and all, but they are not my cup of dress tea.
