"Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations" 2012 Costume Institute Gala Best Dressed
The annual Costume Institute Gala is also known as the Met Gala — due to it being held at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. It is also known as the Oscars of the fashion world. Like the Oscars themselves are not the Oscars of the fashion world. It's a tight call. So today is dedicated to the Met Gala and we will cover Best Dressed (right here), Worst Dressed, I Should Like It But I Don't, I Shouldn't Like It But I Do, and a few trends that we picked up at the most important fashion red carpet of the year. Let me begin by saying that Camilla Belle was my hands down best dressed. Wearing Ralph Lauren with that stunning dark lip, I LOVED it. Amazing and unexpected.
I also loved Vampire Diaries star, Nina Dobrev's elegant and flamboyant Donna Karan custom gown. It's hard to get that combination just right. This is it in a dress.
The divine Miss Solange Knowles was in yellow. With a peplum. This one was Rachel Roy and she looked AMAZING. Right? January Jones went for the exact same look — yellow and peplum-ish — and also looked lovely. Hers was Atelier Versace. I think Solange took this one in a throw down. What do you think?
Diane Kruger was in purple Prada and honestly I adored this look. If you are going to go for side boob, you might as well make it purple, fringed in feathers (major trend) and hang an amazing pendant over it. This is about as clever a gown as I have seen of late — perfectly combining a boho sentiment with an elegant execution. BRILLIANT. I also probably shouldn't have Emma Stone in my top five with this great Lanvin frou of a dress. I mean it is short. For a ball. But in every other way it is perfect and she accessorised with a gigantic grin which melts my heart every single time.
Bringing up the rear in the best dressed was Cate Blanchett in black Alexander McQueen (with feathers) and Amy Adams in black and white Giambattista Valli with a gold bow. Nice.
So you know my vote, now what about yours. Who was best dressed? Oh, you want to see more, well there is plenty to come. Sit tight.
