Sometimes a dress just makes you stop in your tracks. No matter how busy your day, you can catch a glimpse of a dress and your jaw just drops and and you take a beat. This was such a dress. Emmy Rossum, star of the US version of the TV series Shameless, wore it last week. The jaunty red, white and blue of the dress is belied by the sophisticated silhouette that designer Carolina Herrera has created. She really is a master — and this dress is significantly more of a step forward for her. I love that she is still innovating and pushing her design aesthetic, after all these years of success. I like that she is going somewhere a bit complicated and arresting. And the thing that tips it over the edge into wonder? That red bow. I know, I know, this is not the commonly held opinion on the matter. Over on Tom & Lorenzo that think this whole thing is odd and that it would be better without the bow. Well they are not girls. For me, for girls the world over, the bow is the business. All hail the bow! Thank you.
