Jane Sews Spring/Summer 2013 Lookbook

The lovely Amy Venter sent me the new look book from her fashion range Jane Sews earlier this week. You will almost certainly have seen the images on other blogs already, but if not, let me tell you what I like about this.
First of all, it is the SS13 range, already. I know, it should be ready and into production by now, but usually the local designers a a bit behind.
I also like that the collection is made mostly from natural fibers. Summer in Africa demands it. An informed market demands it. It distinguishes it from any number of Asian imports.
I also like that it is simple and pretty. Pretty can go a long way in my book. Especially when it is beautifully made and affordable. Then pretty is for the win.
I like that it is relatively easy to wear. It's not fancy, it can be dressed up and it can be worn for casual summer days around town. This is what fashion needs to do for us in these times.
I love that the range has extended to leather goods like that AMAZING handbag. It is cool and practical (it definitely fits an iPad) and it is in colours that are not completely ordinary and available everywhere else.
I'm not completely sold on the styling of this shoot. What on earth are the random palm fronds and pineapples for? I think it is SO important to be careful not to let silly styling get in the way of an awesome collection of garments. Styling should always communicate the narrative of the collection.
