Yesterday saw the first of the bigger stars arrive in Venice for the oldest of the global film festivals. With a day look and a red carpet look to show their sartorial stuff, we can look at the two golden girls of the first day to see what we can expect of this year's event. Well Kate Hudson took my breath away in this gold Atelier Versace gown. I have hated their red carpet looks in the past year. But it takes Kate to show us how it is done properly. I just can't fault a single thing about this whole vibe. LOVE.

I didn't think Kate did that well during the day. Her double breasted white Gucci suit was too big for her. She actually folded back the sleeve half way through the photo call — but she could have done better and rolled/pushed it up to the elbow for a more convincing solution. It was fine. She is flawless. But the suit not so much.

Naomi Watts, one of my fave actresses, accompanied her husband Liev Schreiber to the festival. She wore Marchesa to the red carpet, also in gold. And she looked lovely. Not brilliant. A bit wan. But lovely. If only she would stand up straight.

But Naomi's day look was awesome. The Prada darling. This is going to be my signature look this summer, make no mistake. Winning.
