MBFWCT13: Spilt Milk
We were invited to the greatest show on earth. No, I obviously don't mean Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Cape Town, but the show within that show. I mean the circus at Spilt Milk. Commercial designer Alma van den Berg provided a wonderfully evocative narrative to showcase her designs, each of the characters of the circus represented in her lovely little pieces, amplified through her brilliantly hand made character props.
Between the ringmaster, the balloon seller, the juggler and the tightrope walker, you had on-trend monochrome — and red — garments that were perfectly wonderful. But for the runway, Alma put on a show and we are so delightfully grateful for it. As one of the standout first-timers at the fashion week, I will not be surprised if Alma is quickly very successful. She knows just how to turn the sound up on her work so that it can hold its own on a catwalk — and yet, once the lights go down, can just as easily sell really well in any store in the country. Very smart work.
Hats are by The Little Hattery and Spilt Milk was supported by the Cape Town Fashion Council to show at MBFWCT.
