I was extremely sad yesterday to find out that the great Anna Piaggi of Vogue Italia had died in her home in Milan. She was 81 years old.

Her flamboyance and sense of fashion fun was unparalleled and inspired many generations of fashion icons like Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Scott Schuman and Katie Grand.

Her vast wardrobe — back in 2006 when it was displayed at the V&A museum in London — included over 2800 items of clothing and 265 pairs of shoes. She was my kind of gal. A hoot. A maverick. May she rest in peace.
