Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, in Jenny Packham at Tusk Trust
Keeping things tidy on the blog today, so all I am going to say about this glittering Jenny Packham gown that Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, wore to her first official outing after her maternity leave — to attend the Tusk Trust Conservation Awards — is what I like and what I don't. It wasn't, after all, an unmitigated success.
What I like: That it is sparkly and celebratory, welcoming her back from maternity leave. The length. The shoes — amazing Jimmy Choos — my favourite in her entire collection. The slinky fit from the bust down. That there is limited accessorising, which is necessary with such a dazzler of a dress, wearing one simple diamond bracelet and nothing else. Good.
What I didn't like: The weird exposed mesh bodice. The high neck. The 'spaniel ears' hair, over the high neck (surely SOMEONE has told her that you wear your hair up when you are wearing a high neck??) The droopy front. The hair. Did I already mention that? I really didn't like the hair. And finally, would it kill her to wear lip colour once in a while? Tie up the hair, pop on some lippy. C'mon lady, you have to evolve your look a LITTLE after all these years of exactly the same hair and make up. PLEASE. Otherwise it needs to be said that I am delighted she is back in the game, because she gets it more right than wrong and she always makes me excited to see what she is wearing. Over to you.
