Whatever your thoughts on the style of the dress, it is incredibly respectful, as are all Kate's fashion choices. The couple were in Singapore to visit the orchid named for Diana, Princess of Wales, and they headed directly from the airport to the event, such was its importance to them.
The dress was perfect for the occasion, and showed the reverence for both the memory of Kate's mother-in-law, and for the honour of also having an orchid named after the royal couple too. I just wish that Kate's hairdresser, along for the tour, could have found some other way to pin back her hair than these hideous 90s-style mini banana clips. I am utterly horrified.
Much improvement and more wide-spread happiness was the result of the second outfit of the day. Dressed for the guard of honour and State dinner, Kate wore a stunning purple floral print wool-silk dress by Singapore-born Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung. AWESOME.
With a slightly v-back, and fully lined in silk, this dress is from the current season and in fact on sale right now in the UK for less than a thousand pounds. Not only it is completely appropriate, wonderfully on-trend and a bit fashion-y, but it is also showing respect for designers of the area. As usual, clever, clever Kate.
The royal couple towered over the local president and his wife. Also notably, Kate didn't take a single sip of the wine placed in front of her the entire duration of the seven-course dinner, preferring to drink from — and toast with — her water glass. It couldn't just be that Kate didn't want to drink of course, it has caused all sorts of speculation about pregnancy...Sigh. It's going to be a long 9-day tour. But obviously I will be covering every single outfit along the way. Hop on board gang, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
