Allison Williams in Vintage Geoffrey Beene
There was a gala in New York earlier this week. I imagine that it was something like a Gala out of Gossip Girl. And Tony Bennett was performing. With that in mind, imagine how surprised I was to see that Allison Williams — a classic upper East Side girl — wasn't dressed in a hot-off-the-runway SS14 frock. No. She wore vintage. My absolute very favourite kind of couture.
This is a vintage Geoffrey Beene halter dress with all the hallmarks of New York design finesse in the 70s and 80s. Aside from technical skill, Geoffrey Beene was known to make dresses that were comfortable and easy to wear. And he was hugely awarded by the industry. He may even be one of the most awarded in America ever. Clever choice of dress Allison. Very clever.
