African supermodel, Alek Wek, has been named as the face of the new line of Brazilian footwear brand Melissa Shoes. This line is geared for our southern hemisphere summer, is brightly coloured, and is known as the Rainbow collection.

Apparently Alek has been styled as an 'African Princess' in these campaign images. I would beg to differ. No princess of mine would lie around with her legs in the air, wearing not much more than a cozzie to protect her modesty.

The set is dramatic and beautiful and there is no doubt that the model from the South Sudan is still able to bring it after all these years in the business. But princess this is not.

Melissa Shoes are a great, affordable fashion shoe — confortable due to the moulded rubber, smelling amazing and probably the only way I am able to include Jason Wu and Vivienne Westwood into my wardrobe via their collaborations. So I am even more of a fan due to the choice of an African girl to front their summer campaign. Long live Melissa Shoes!
