I can't say 'black and gold' without the Sam Sparro song popping into my head. And maybe it was subliminal. When the Euro designers were coming up with their winter 2012/13 collections, maybe they had the song playing in their heads. Because, let me tell you, black and gold seems to be the biggest colour trend for winter on the red carpet. Just last night there were at least four ladies who wore this colour combo on major red carpets, not least of which was the great Dame Hellen Mirren at the premier of the new Hitchcock movie in her Dolce & Gabbana. Looking sensational, right? Right there it is enough for me. But let's hammer home the trend.

There was Brandy on the AMA red carpet. She wore this very asymmetrical dress with pleating, but actually landed up looking pretty amazing, if slightly as if she was attending a Grecian dress up party. But dressed on-trend.

And also at the AMAs was Jenny McCarthy, also in Dolce & Gabbana, who as ever are the masters of dominating the key trend colours of the season.

And finally over in Scotland, one of my favourite ever radio DJs, Edith Bowman, was dressing her maternity bump in the very same colour combo. Black and gold, black and gold, black and gold...she sings as she walks away, job done.
