I felt quite bad about the fash-lashing I gave Anne Hathaway yesterday about that dastardly Tom Ford dress and boots. So I thought that I would seek out some 'hits' from the Les Mis promo tour to show you to kinda make up for it. I mean this red floral velvet shift is delightfully festive, and nicely appropriate for the TV appearance she was making. And it didn't look like she was trying too hard. Which with Anne is the key. Too, too much trying to be ultra-fashionista. Which simply doesn't work on her. Not really her fault, just a bad stylist.

Also these frocks are all super, beautifully combined with just the right shoes, and keeping the accessories totally stripped back so play with her gamine hairstyle. This is consistently good styling work and that sparkling Nina Ricci dress is a winner.

Anne is game too. It was adorable when she allowed Jimmy Fallon to dress her up in Christmas silliness and sing along to the carols he played. Good girl. Nice effort. Just enough. Not too much.

The girl looks good in her off-duty time too. I especially love that quilted leather jacket. So why is it that her stylist tries so hard on the red carpet? And gets it wrong almost every time... Anne is just not made for haute couture. She is a pretty girl who needs to play in the strong American market — Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta for the big events. Sleek, elegant, girl-next-door-grows-up. That's her thing. She shouldn't be forced into something she isn't.

Oh, and while I am talking about that dress last night, a note to Anne. The correct response to flashing your lady junk for all the world to see is not "the world is full of bad, nasty people", it is "oops, I guess next time I will simply have to wear underwear." Sure, it would be nice to live in a world where that kind of humiliation is deleted rather than sold. But we don't. So the simple solution is — don't put yourself in that kind of situation. I mean really. How hard is it to JUST WEAR KNICKERS?? Rant over. Phew. That girl. She doesn't do herself any favours. Even when she is dressed beautifully.
