2014 Vanity Fair Hollywood Cover Revealed
Every year I post this annual Hollywood cover. And every year we are forced to face the undeniable fact that Hollywood means white and attractive and bland (pretty much). Although always very glamorous and gorgeous to look at. Not this year. What? Yup. This year Hollywood is about character and emerging stars and diversity and unexpected pleasures. Just look at this cover.
Julia Roberts and George Clooney bring the superstar power. Along with irreverence and humour. Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor are both British and black and beautiful. Also I have had crushes on them for years. Jared Leto brings the cool long hair and rockstar sensibility. Margot Robbie is a pure Aussie sex bomb and Léa Seydoux a French one. This is a big deal. Lupita Nyong'o is the Kenyan style star of the moment. And Michael B Jordon is the guy to watch in Hollywood. I don't know Brie Larson or Chadwick Boseman - which is intriguing all on its own and I certainly will start to investigate. Leaving Naomi Harris who I don't love but feel obliged to support since she played Winnie Mandela. But really the cover would have been dazzling and brilliant without her. Well done Annie Liebovitz. Well done Vanity Fair, who this year almost got it perfect.
