2014 Oscars Red Carpet Best Dressed: In Black
Every year there are ladies on the 2014 Oscars red carpet that play it safe — or dramatic — in black. With this I am perfectly happy as long as they make it interesting. And this year they mostly did. I mean you simply can't fault onse Charlize Theron in custom, floor sweeping Dior. She is flawlessly beautiful. She was also one of the very few ladies who wore a big skirt on the red carpet. And frankly, why not? She has never been one to follow the herd.
Julia Roberts was one of the nominees last night and so she needed a big red carpet moment. She went with black lace Givenchy, with peplum detail. I think that it mostly worked. Especially when she was standing up straight like she is here. When she wasn't, it was all a bit lumpy around the mid section.
Emma Watson continues to impress me with her new, edgy approach to the red carpet. It started with that red and black Dior trouser vibe at the Globes, and she has continued here with gunmetal and black Vera Wang. Modern and youthful, it works. Especially with the expert hair and make-up she is working.
I also personally LOVE Olivia Wilde's in this very contemporary Valentino maternity dress. With pockets. I mean right there we have a winner. What you can't see is the open back and draped white swathe down the back. It really is a stunner. And as I may have mentioned, it has pockets. Anne Hathaway does nothing to harm me here. She wore a sleek Gucci sheath with a bedazzled bodice. Her hair and make-up are flawless and the dress fits beautifully. I don't personally like it, but I have nothing to criticise either. And every red carpet needs a shocker. This is only a such because Margot Robbie dyed her hair deep, chestnut brown and wore gothic Saint Laurent. But she looks extraordinarily beautiful, so good one, mate.
