Terry Pheto in SA Designers at Toronto International Film Festival 2013
I have no words for how happy this makes me. The gorgeous Terry Pheto was on the red carpet in Toronto this weekend at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. She was there for the world premier of Mandela: A Long Walk to Freedom, starring Idris Elba, Naomi Harris and herself.
For the premier Terry wore a magnificent backless gown designed by a South African fashion icon, Marianne Fassler. Look. If you were to stand on the world stage in a gown, there are exactly five designers you would want to go to locally, and Marianne is totes, defs, obvs one of them.
Naomi wore a beautiful Marchesa dress to the premier. In black tulle. It would normally make my heart sing a little, but it couldn't compete with Terry's dress. She stole the show.
For the press conference with the cast, Terry wore more local — that Pichulik neckpiece was a stunner, and completely elevated her outfit, without having to try too hard or go over the top.
Naomi looked lovely in Burberry, I will give her that. Elegant and sophisticated, and by all evidence she seems like a jolly nice girl. She and Terry seemed to get on very well through all the activities and events they had to attend together.
And then there was the dinner and portrait shoot. For these events, Terry wore Gert Johan Coetzee. I am not usually a fan of his very OTT one-off designs, but Terry looks classy and arresting in this dress so I am going to chalk this one up to a resounding win for all concerned. What a fabulous demonstration of local fashion, capably and elegantly carried by Terry Pheto. Bring on the rest of the promotional activity. Also it means we can stare at Idris. Never a bad way to start the day.
