Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, Pairs Roland Mouret with Zara
On Thursday night the world heard about the passing of our president, Nelson Mandela. At the time, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, and her husband, Prince William, were watching the royal screening of Mandela: A Long Walk to Freedom in London. She apparently left the cinema in tears, moved by what has brought us all to tears.
She arrived, dressed in the same white Roland Mouret dress that she wore last year. I preferred the Jimmy Choo sandals she wore last time, but understand that she mixed it up with the black courts and bag for some variation.
She also wore a £19.99 bejewelled necklace from Zara. Now I really like this necklace. In fact I encouraged a friend to buy the very one last weekend. It looks great against black and jazzes up an otherwise dull outfit. But it is not ever going to work that successfully when teamed with couture, lets be honest. Also, she is a princess. I don't mind some high street. In fact I completely endorse it. I love that she is thrifty. But this is event inappropriate. A red carpet, in couture, deserves better than this piece that just looks tacky against the beautiful fabric of the dress.
And while I am carping, how about that ponytail? How long have I begged for a ponytail? And this is what she gives me? A drooping, sad little mess of a pony. Come on!!
Anyway. There are more important things to dwell on right now. Kate did something a bit different — and I love that leg split — and I really appreciate it. It didn't work entirely, but it was a good effort. But it's not the thing we will remember from that night. Not even close.
